There are few different reason why the server may not answer the phone. It could be
because the computer does not have the correct phone number or that it is try to dial long
distance, modem/server compatibility issues, or interference from the phone lines.
The phone number should just be the town prefix and the number, not the area code, such
as 636-1444, not 931-363-1444.
To change the phone number:
For Windows 95:
- Double Click My Computer
- Double Click Dial-Up Networking
- Click the surfmore.net icon
- Click File and Properties
- Change the Phone Number to the apropriate
number
- Make sure Use Country Code and Area Code is
NOT
checked
- Change the Area Code to 618
- Hit OK
- Close Dial-Up Networking
- Close My Computer
- Double Click the The Internet or Shoutcut to surfmore.net
- When the Connect To window appears click Dial Properties
- Change the Area Code to 931
- Make sure the to boxes to access an outside line first dial ___ for local, ___
for long distance are blank unless you have to dial a number such as 7 or 9
before dialing any number using your telephone
- Uncheck Dial Using Calling Card
- This location has call waiting should only be check if you the Call Waiting AND
Cancel Call Waiting. If you do have both
service check the
box at the start and put *70, in the box at the end.
- Make sure Dial as if Long Distance is
NOT
Checked
- Hit OK
For Windows 3.1:
- Double Click Trumpet Winsock and hit the ESC key
- Click Dialer
- Click 1setup.cmd
- Change the Phone Number to the appropriate number
- Hit OK on username
- Hit OK on password
- Close Trumpet
For Macintosh:
- Click the Apple Menu
- Click Control Panels
- Click ConfigPPP or PPP
- Change the Phone Number to the appropriate number
- Close Configure PPP
