WINDOWS 98 SETUP

If you are using Windows98, it comes loaded with Internet Explorer and and Internet Connection Wizard.  To start the wizard do the following:
 

  • Click on "Start"
  • Select "Programs"
  • Select "Internet Explorer"
  • Click on "Connection Wizard"

  • Internet Connection Wizard


     

  • Click on the dot next to "I have an existing Internet account through my phone line or a local area network(LAN).  Help me setup my computer to connect to this Internet account"
  • Click on "Next"
  • Click on the dot next to "Select this option if you are accessing the Internet using an Internet service provider or a local area network (LAN)"
  • Click on "Next"

  • Setup your Internet Connection


     

  • Click on the dot next to "Connect using my phone line"
  • Click on "Next"

  • Phone Number


     

  • Click in the field  "area code" and type 931 in the area code.
  • Click in the field "telephone number" and type in one of the following Surfmore access numbers for your town

  •  

  • In the field "Country name and code", select "United States of America (1)"
  • take the check out of the box "Dial using the area code and country code"
  • Click on "Next"

  • User Name and Password


     

  • In "User Name", type in your Login from your sign up sheet.  example: bjohnson
  • In "Password", type in your Password from your sign up sheet
  • Click "Next"

  • Advanced Settings


     

  • Click on the dot next to "Yes"
  • Click on "Next"

  • Connection Type


     

  • Click on the dot next to "PPP (Point to Point Protocol)"
  • Click on "Next"

  • Logon Procedure


     

  • Click on the dot next to "I don't need to type anything when logging on"
  • Click on "Next"

  • IP Address


     

  • Click on the dot next to "My Internet service provider automatically assigns me one"
  • Click on "Next"

  • *NOTE* At this point you might get a warning suggesting to disable File and Printer sharing through TCP/IP while connected to the Internet.  If you do it is recommended to click YES.  If you do not get this message it's ok to move on.

    DNS Server Addresses


     

  • Click on the dot next to "Always use the following"
  • In "DNS Server" type in "63.85.209.10" and in "Alternate DNS server" type in "63.85.209.11"
  • Click on "Next"

  • Dialup Connection Name
     

  • In connection name erase whatever is in there and type in "surfmore.net"
  • Click on "Next"

  • Setup Your Internet Mail Account

    -Click  "Yes"
    -Click "Next"
    -Click "Create a new Internet Mail Account"
    -Click "Next"

    Display Name

    -Type in your name
    -Click Next

    Email Address

    -Enter in your full email address (i.e. "yourlogin@midamer.net")
    -Click "Next"

    Email Server Names

    -Set My incoming mail server is a "POP3"
    -Incoming mail server: type "surfmore.net"
    -Outgoing mail server: type "surfmore.net"
    -Click "Next"

    Internet Mail Login

    -Click "Logon Using"
    -In "Account name" type in your login
    -In "Password" type in your password
    -Click "Next"

    Friendly Name

    -In "Internet mail account name" , it is ok to leave it at "surfmore.net"
    -Click "Next"

    Setup your Internet News Account

    -Click "No"
    -Click "Next"

    Setup your Internet Directory Service

    -Click "No"
    -Click "Next"

    After you reach "Complete Configuration", click on "Finish"


     

    To connect to Surfmore.net simply double click on Internet Explorer, Netscape, or any other Internet application and then choose Connect.
